Did you know a cheetah can go from 0-60 in three seconds? They are amazing animals and were built to be fast runners. Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world running 100m sprint in 9.58 seconds! That is absolutely insane considering I can barely tie my shoes in 9.58 seconds.
Imagine 9.58 or 3 seconds, what could you honestly do in that time frame. Running is defiantly genetic when it comes to being a good runner such as Bolt. Along with Diet, training, and motivation which comes into play when being a good runner.
I recently decided that I will be running a half marathon in May. 13.1 miles, and yes that's crazy, well at least to me. Some people love running and are actually good at running, me... Yeah right. I am the worst runner, have horrible form, a bad back, crappy joints etc... But even with all of that one thing on my bucket list is to run a marathon half or full.
So, what am I doing to get ready for this marathon when I'm "so bad" at running? Training everyday! This doesn't mean always running but also cross training, strength building, and stretching. My body wasn't meant to be a fast or good runner, but with the proper training anyone can run. If you hate it as much as I do I challenge you to do something hard. Do something you hate and change it to a positive action.
Training for this marathon is going to jump start my metabolism and help me loose the lbs I want, gain muscle mass back, and be healthier overall. Also, I'm excited for a great beach body in May!
Interested in training for a marathon or learning how to start running?
To start:
1. Make a plan! Pick a race, a day, a goal and make sure you have plenty of time to train.
2. Find a buddy. Working out with someone else is always easier even if it's a virtual friend or a real one.
3. Get good shoes! This is so important! Find a professional that will help you find a good pair of running shoes. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny on them too, but they are so worth it.
4. Be prepared for injuries and know how to read your body and the changes happening not only outside but inside as well.
5. Get a great playlist! The best part of running is what gets you in the zone.
6. Buy extra laundry detergent cause you'll be doing a lot more wash! 😃
7. Protein shakes and electrolyte powders will be your friend!
8. Stretch, stretch, stretch! Before and after all the time.
9. Cross train such as lifting, Yoga, bike riding, elliptical, things that aren't to intense but helpl build cardio endurance and strength on days you don't run.
10. Don't give up! Remember 1-9 and repeat!
Again, I challenge you to be active, stay positive, and be strong as this is an important decision that will change your life if you are also not a runner like me. Good luck!
The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.
